| Small animals spend a lot of time licking and cleaning themselves. However, they still need you to assist them in maintaining a healthy, shiny coat. Grooming will help stimulate the circulation, and remove moulting, unwanted hairs.
Whilst grooming you can check for any possible problems with the coat, which can be caused by matted and tangled fur. Also check for fleas or skin irritations.
You will soon find out how your small animal likes to be groomed and which parts of the grooming routine are liked best. They will have a sensitive area where extra care should be taken. Talk in a gentle, reassuring manner whilst grooming. Regular combing around the ears, nape of the neck and base of the tail with a Hindes Dust /Flea Comb will prevent flea infestation. Stainless steel pins are best - they are precisely set to remove fleas and their eggs and can be thoroughly sterilised after use.
